Konstmusiksystrar presented their platform on Meetup in July 2016. Info:
Konstmusiksystrar is a network for young composers working in contemporary music and sound art up to age of 30, who identify themselves as women or transgender. On our website, we have an ever growing list of our members. Konstmusiksystrar works as a safe environment where our members can meet without prejudice, share experience, create music and change the existing structures within the contemporary music scene.
As a woman or a transsexual one might feel solitary in the environment of new music and sound art. We are convinced that Sweden does not consist solely of male composers as it appears in the media, at festivals, competitions and concerts. For a long time, we have felt a lack of a network and a platform for young transgender people and women in this field. We have therefore initiated a survey to prove, to all those who reject us and who claim that they can not find us, that we exist! We wish to share the list with institutions and festival organisers, and to use it as a mailing list in order to reach out to young women and transgender people and encourage them to apply to festivals, schools, competitions, open calls – wherever the representation is heavily uneven. We also work on raising awareness among decision-juries and organizers of existing structures. We also hope that this list can act as support for each other, to know that we are not alone.
